Tim Wellens finished tenth in the 2019 BinckBank Tour time-trial, extending his lead in the general classification by four seconds over Marc Hirschi. The event is poised for an exciting showdown with Wellens taking a lead of just eight seconds to Geraardsbergen.

"I am happy about my day," Wellens explained after his time-trial in The Hague. "I am taking four seconds on the second guy, only Laurens De Plus managed to take a few seconds back. It was a time-trial that suited me because of the short distance. I managed to push the watts that I needed. The goal was to not start too quickly, so I wouldn't slow down in the headwind."

The Belgian Lotto-Soudal rider remains in pole position to take a third overall win in the BinckBank Tour. With a lead of just eight seconds on Hirschi and twelve on De Plus, Wellens is remaining cautious. "My lead definitely isn't comfortable," he warned. "It will be a very tough stage. The predicted rain will make it even harder. We've got a good team here that should be capable of controlling the stage. I am hoping to have good legs, but I need to count on my team even more and then the overall win is possible."
