With his sprint win in Venray Alvaro Hodeg was the first Colombian to win a stage in the BinckBank Tour.

The sprinter riding for Deceuninck-Quick Step had to settle for top-five finishes in previous sprints, but he grabbed his last chance with both hands in the fifth stage of the Belgian-Dutch stage race: ""This is a victory of the team," he said. "My team-mates did an incredible job all day. They worked hard to get the breakaway back. In the final they also kept helped me a lot. After the three local laps I knew the last corner was key. Thanks to Stybar and Senechal I came out in a great position and I managed to do my sprint."

Hodeg impressively broke clear to power towards the line. Three-time stage Sam Bennett came very close, but ended up half a bike length behind the Colombian. "My form is good. Today we tried it again and we did it. Today it was for me."
